Interworld Electronics has released the BP6FS6890 Series PICMG® 1.3 segmented backplanes from Trenton Technology. The BP6FS6890 multi-segmented backplanes support up to four PICMG® 1.3 system host boards (SHBs) and multiple PCI Express option cards on a single backplane, and are available in both Server and Graphics Class configurations. The net result is a standard, 4U 19-inch rackmount system that saves rack space by enabling up to four system host boards to run multiple independent applications or function together a computer cluster.

Cluster computing requires high speed Ethernet networks to provide communication between individual processors. The BP6FS6890 Series backplanes provides an optional onboard 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet Hub enabling the SHBs in each segment to share data and communicate information to and from the system hosts without requiring an external Ethernet connection. This optional backplane capability requires that the SHBs support Ethernet interface routing to SHB Edge Connector C as defined in the PICMG® 1.3 specification.

The BP6FS6890 Series are 20-slot form factor backplanes that provide one x8 and two x16 PCI Express slots per segment. Individual ATX/EPS power connectors per segment allow multiple or redundant power supplies to distribute power to the system host boards.

Onboard Ethernet Fabric Communications, Multiple SHBs and PCI Express expansion slots make the BP6FS6890 Series ideal for cluster computing applications.
